It's been almost 5 months since I wrote something, so bear with me for this long post.....

Below are some of the photos from the three shoots which I did in Melbourne before I flew back to Singapore.

How times flies as it was just yesterday that I remembered all the fun times I had in Melbourne this year aside from the endless assignments, projects and exams. So let me carry on from where I last left off in August at Manifest.

This was my first time at an Australian cosplay event and I can really say that I 100% enjoyed it. I went there with two of my Singaporean friends who were cosing Wally and Team-Rocket. Mr.Wally was the center of attraction in our group (since he was tall too), every 5-10 steps that we took had someone shouting "I FOUND YOU WALLY!" and asking to take photos with him. It was that bad when we took 30mins just to get from point A to point B (which was only 100 meters away). Unknowingly, I started to compare the differences between Aussie and Singapore cosplay events. The Aussie side has more cosplayers compare to photographers, in fact even some of the photographers themselves were wearing Kigurumi which I thought it was pretty cute. The community in aussie is more friendly which tend to chat even after posing for you, sharing tips and experiences even if you're not a cosplayer. As for Singapore, there are mostly more photographers then cosplayers and sometimes it can be just irritating to fight with the crowd to help take photos for your friends, in addition I just read a recent newspaper article about how our visitors got treated badly at a regional event www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbi… ;this has really made me question what has really happened to the place where I was born, where have the values and responsibility gone to? If I could get a PR, I would gladly stay in Melbourne, not just because of the people but I love the skies and weather there too.

Anyway, I manage to meet up with :iconhiyuki: and :iconblackcrane56:'s team. I was really confused as there were so many new people that I met and it was had trying to put faces/names to the pictures on DA, I apologize if I made any mistake or called someone wrongly on that day. On a side note, it was a coincidence that :iconastellecia: who was in lisa's team recognized my Wally friend, Julian; both of them were studying in the same high school back in Singapore. (what a small world)

Fast forward 3 months after Manifest, exams were ending and I was invited to a last minute Hunter X Hunter shoot as Mark :iconshinomatrix: had to shoot a wedding on that day. It was one of my most memorable shoots not only because I started to shoot in RAWs but getting to the location site, had pretty much reminded me of my army training of crawling, running and climbing over stuff. We had to roll under a gate and crawl through a fence which ended up with some of the costumes tearing up even before the shoot started. I ended up borrowing Lisa's remote flash for the evening shoots as it was getting pretty dark. Thanks to Lisa for teaching me about how remote flashes work and how cosplay shots are done, for example the low angle; which required us to lie flat on the ground. The other point was to get the framing, and positions right, since I usually shoot still life, this was a totally new experience for me. I guess it takes me time to get comfortable with everyone.

I had a total of three photoshoots (Hunter X Hunter, Cantarella, & Macross Frontier) during the last three weeks in Melbourne before flying (1st dec) back to Singapore for my 3 months internship (5th dec 2011 - 24th feb 2012). Will be back in Melbourne on 26th Feb as Uni resumes on 27th Feb, this suxs, wants at least a week worth of break. T_T"

Thank you :iconblackcrane56: :iconastellecia: :iconmeeelldango: :iconakinofujiko: :iconpumpkinwin: :iconritsuka-shiina: :icondarcywilliam: for the patience, teachings and invitations to the photoshoots. Not forgetting our epic hardworking behind the scene helpers :iconeightroses: and Faridah. I'll try my best to improve my skills to provide more satisfying photos in the future.

P.S. I'll try and find the time to clear my 6 months +  backlogs one day, too lazy to clear it at the moment. Also, the next journal entry would most likely be another 6 months time, at the rate things are going. haha :3

Manifest 2011

2 min read
yes I am not dead....6 months since my last journal post...hahah

How time flies when you are busy with University Assignments. My winter term has just ended and I'm currently on my one week break before my semester two starts again next Monday (8 Aug 2011). Kinda suxs that I only have one week break in-between school terms and this will last until end of the year. I'll be applying for my 12 weeks Summer Attachment soon to be either done in Singapore or Melbourne, so it will all depend on the results; if I'll be back in Singapore at the end of the year.

Next, I've decided not to include anymore watermarks after reading this thomashawk.com/2011/06/on-wate…
1) most of my works are just plain simple
2) i'm lazy, alot more work to include the watermarks
3) it doesn't matter if it is stolen, as long as I feel good about taking the photo (or for my friends)
4) there are softwares and ways to get rid of it, so wouldn't your efforts left to vein?

Anyway enough ranting, I'll be heading to Manifest 2011 on the 27th and 28th Aug (sat & sun), I haven been to any cosplays events in Melbourne ever since I started studying here in mid-2009. However, this semester I have only three days of school which is super rare, which made me decided to check this event out.

Going to meet up with :iconhiyuki: :iconblackcrane56: and their team. I'll do my best with my photography skills as I'm still learning.

Guess this is the list of other peps I'll be meeting :iconastellecia:  :iconashteyz: :iconmissdeliri:  :iconakinofujiko: :iconeightroses: :iconstraaay: :iconzimiel: :iconenchanted-waffle:

cya, there!

I'm back in Singapore (since 07th Dec 2010) for my summer break and will be flying back to Melbourne on 07th Feb 2011. University resumes on 28th Feb 2011. Between that two weeks I'll be doing a roadtrip from Brisbane to Melbourne...looking forward to it as it will be fun :D

Finally, got my own DSLR (Canon EOS 550D) on 14 Dec 2010, so far I've done some animal, street, landscape, panoramas, figurines and cosplays shot. I enjoy taking pictures of all sorts of things, just finding my bearings as a beginner photographer.

I might have a cosplay photoshoot with my friends before I fly back. Hopefully things will work out as I'm really looking forward to it.

So, with all that said. Starting March 2011, I will be busy with uni assignments and will not be uploading as much works. I hope that you all will understand. I would like to take this opportunity to Thank all those who have Fav my works. :D

I'll just be around once in a blue moon to clear backlogs, till then have fun!

Cheers.

It's been two months since my last upload and entry. Sad to say I am still busy with school work even when my winter break is just around the corner (11 June - 09 Aug 2010). Sorry to all my watches (for no new uploads) & I would like to say THANK YOU to all those who have faved my works.

Most likely; I'll be leaving this account to rot, but I'll be more active (uploading other pics) on facebook www.facebook.com/people/Darren… . Do add me if you want but do mention your deviantart ID so I'll know who you are. I hate adding random people that I do not know. :>

I should be active at the end of Dec 2010 when I'm back in Singapore for my Summer Break.  I'll just be around once in a blue moon to clear backlogs, till then have fun!

So its been two weeks since I flew back to Melbourne as my school (uni) starts on 1st March. Love the 22 deg C weather here. My new apartment is much better than last year's.

First week of school and I've got 2 design concepts, 1 solid-works assignment and 1 design presentation; to be submitted by next week.

*flips table* *flips table* *flips table* *flips table*

I'll will be very busy with school work till end of the year. Unlikely there will be any updates from me (I'll try my best). On the side note, I did not bring the Nikon D50, so I'm currently using Lumix DMC-FS5 to take photos in Melbourne.

Sorry to everyone who had faved/watched me and not receiving a thank you from me. If you are reading this, Thank you very Much!

Till my next update...

Edit I: 7 March 2010;
I've hit 1,000 Pageviews! Thank you for all the support!

Edit II: 9 March 2010;
Today I started to learn about the capabilities of Autodesk 3ds Max and we'll be submitting a project on it at the end of the semester. With some Solidworks drawings. I seriously want to be a 3D Designer in the future!

Awesome 3Ds Max is just Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit III: 10 March 2010;
Just thought of giving my readers an idea of what I'm doing this semester.

This semester is really crazy. I haven include my engineering subject, Structural Mechanics. All these projects are from 3 design modules and I thought its like 1 project for 1 design module which what happened last semester. Looks like I'm wrong. gg

[project 1] design a stapler using solidworks using only solid forms what we learn last semester, no using of surface forms, after that we'll xfer it to 3d studio max where we will render the stapler and make an animation film out of it. The main focus will be using the film to try and sell your product to a client. (thus having knowledge of photography will help in the production of your film as it includes lighting and other photography aspects)

[project 2] designing "door pull". Come up with three models sculptured using plasticine/sculpturing clay, pick out the best design. Model the final design casted in polyurethane.

[project 3] design a "hole punch". with a selected designer given by lecturer, research on his styling and reflect it in your design. your design must also target a specific market choice. you will hand in a A2 folio with concepts and developments and your final design sculptured up in a blue foam.

[project 4] remote keyless entry display. You will be making a remote control for a car alarm in blue foam. This will be displayed within a box that uses foam core and card to create a styled space for mounting the remote control. The foam core will act as a frame and internal pieces of card (you design this configuration) will provide surfaces to display the remote control on. The remote control must be removable not glued or fixed. (basically I need to do Origami)

[project 5] Illustration/Rendering 3D Sketch Modeling. This is mostly weekly assignments. This week assignment is to draw a 8x8x8 cube box with a two angle 2 point perspective. Make sure your design includes extruded boxes and some which are taken away. (basically it is training you how to draw in 3D w/o ruler, but for this assignment I can use a ruler. T_T" )
